ABOUT ME
I make functional pots, using porcelain clay. These are thrown on the wheel, and decorated with coloured slips and underglazes.
The forms are simple and classical: the decoration is contemporary, with the emphasis on colour, and brushwork that creates the feeling of lightness and energy.
Function is important. My favourite comment from a customer was from a piano teacher who said that her lidded cappuccino cup was very useful, keeping (in her case) the tea warm!
I work from my studio near Kew Bridge in London, in the grounds of the London Museum of Water and Steam. I am a regular visitor to Kew Gardens, and enjoy sketching plants and trees and taking inspiration from their shapes and their colours.
I also take inspiration from music, and particularly from dance. The combination of the mastering of technique with the expression of feeling that the dancer achieves is for me similar to the precise skill of throwing a pot and the opportunity to express ideas and my own personality.
